Laying Non Exposed TPO Waterproofing Membrane on Metal Roof

TPO waterproofing membrane combines the advantages of EPDM and PVC, with weather resistance, low-temperature flexibility, and weldability. This material exhibits high elasticity of rubber at room temperature, while it forms like plastic at high temperatures. Therefore, TPO has excellent processing and mechanical properties, as well as high-strength welding ability. Adding a layer of polyester fiber fabric between two layers of TPO material can enhance its physical properties, improve its fracture strength, fatigue resistance, and puncture resistance.

During construction, the following points should be noted:

• Grassroots treatment: Ensure that the base is clean, flat, free of oil stains and debris, which is the foundation of TPO waterproofing membrane construction.
• Roll laying: Lay the roll according to the design requirements, pay attention to the accuracy of overlap and welding, and ensure the waterproof effect.
  
• Welding quality: Welding is a key step in TPO waterproofing construction, and it is necessary to ensure that the welding is uniform, firm, and free of leakage and virtual welding.
  
• Detail processing: For detailed parts such as pipelines, equipment interfaces, etc., special attention should be paid to strengthening the processing to ensure waterproof effect.
  
• Construction of protective layer: Lay a protective layer on top of the TPO waterproof layer to prevent external damage and pollution.

The application of TPO waterproofing membrane in color steel plate roofs is becoming increasingly widespread. The previously commonly used combination of glass fiber and steel plate is now directly laid with a layer of TPO roll material on top of the glass fiber. Firstly, drainage issues need to be considered. It is recommended to install a bottom plate or steel wire mesh on the glass fiber, otherwise the drainage under the TPO roll will be poor, which will increase the live load of the roof. If there is no grassroots support, the TPO membrane on the roof will not only be ineffective, but also increase the risk of load.
