How to construct self-adhesive bituminous waterproofing membranes?

2025-06-07

Latest company news about How to construct self-adhesive bituminous waterproofing membranes?

The construction methods of self-adhesive asphalt waterproofing membrane mainly include dry laying and wet laying. The following are detailed construction steps and precautions:

      Dry laying method

Base treatment

Clean the base to ensure that the surface of the base is flat, dry, and free of floating dust, oil and other debris.
The corners should be smoothed into an arc shape to improve the bonding performance of the membrane and the base.

Applying base treatment agent

Apply a special base treatment agent evenly on the base. The thickness and direction should be controlled during application to ensure that it is dry to the touch and non-sticky state.

Joint strengthening treatment

Additional layers are constructed at detailed nodes such as corners, pipe roots, etc. to enhance the overall performance of the waterproof layer.

Large-area membrane paving

Put large-area membranes according to design requirements, and pay attention to controlling the paving direction and overlap width of the membranes (generally not less than 60mm).
During the paving process, excessive stretching of the membrane should be avoided to avoid shrinkage.
When laying, tear off the transparent protective film and roll the roll material while rolling it. At the same time, use a roller to vent and compact the roll material to ensure that the roll material fits tightly with the base layer without bubbles or wrinkles.

Overlap treatment

Specially treat the overlap of the roll material and use a special sealant to seal it to ensure the firmness and sealing of the overlap.

Inspection and acceptance

Carry out a comprehensive inspection of the completed waterproof layer to ensure that there are no omissions or defects and that it meets the design requirements and quality standards.

      Wet laying method

Base treatment

Clean the base layer to ensure that the surface of the base layer is flat and there is no visible water. If there is water accumulation, it needs to be drained before construction.
The corners of the yin and yang should be smoothed into an arc shape.

Wet base

The dry base surface is pre-moistened with water, but there should be no visible water.

Positioning line

When the working surface is large, the construction control line should be popped up to ensure accurate laying of the roll material.

Mix and spread cement slurry

Determine the thickness of cement slurry (usually 3~5mm) according to the flatness of the on-site base.
Apply cement slurry within the range of the roll material, spreading while applying.

Laying roll material

Remove the isolation film on the lower surface of the self-adhesive waterproof roll material, and lay the roll material flat on the mortar just laid.
After the first roll material is laid, apply cement slurry and lay the second roll material, and so on.
Use a trowel or rubber sheet to pat and press the upper surface of the roll material, lift the slurry, and exhaust the air on the lower surface of the roll material, so that the roll material and the mortar fit tightly.

Overlap seam treatment

When overlapping, lift the transparent isolation film at the overlapping part of the roll material on the lower layer, and stick the upper roll material flatly on the lower roll material, with an overlap width of not less than 60mm.
You can choose to overlap when laying the roll material or when the cement slurry has sufficient strength.

Node reinforcement treatment

Relatively weak parts (such as the end of the coil, the special-shaped parts with more coil cutting, etc.) should be sealed with special sealant.

Inspection and acceptance

Carry out a comprehensive inspection of the completed waterproof layer to ensure that there are no omissions and defects, and it meets the design requirements and quality standards.

Precautions

Temperature and ventilation: During construction, the on-site temperature should be ensured to be no less than 5°C, and good ventilation conditions should be maintained to avoid affecting the bonding effect between the coil and the base.
Base quality: The base must be solid, flat, dry, and free of clear water to ensure the tight bonding between the coil and the base.
Applying the base treatment agent: The base treatment agent should be applied evenly to avoid uneven thickness or missing coating. At the same time, pay attention to controlling the drying time.
Coil laying and compacting: When laying the coil, pay attention to controlling the laying direction and overlap width to avoid excessive stretching or shrinkage. At the same time, use a roller to exhaust and compact the coil to ensure that the coil fits tightly with the base.
Overlap and detail treatment: Special treatment is carried out on the overlap and detail nodes, and special sealant is used for sealing to ensure the integrity and sealing of the waterproof layer.
Protection and maintenance: After the construction is completed, protective measures should be taken in time to prevent the roll material from being damaged or contaminated.

Extended suggestions

Before construction, the product manual and construction specifications should be carefully read to ensure that the construction steps and methods are correct.
For waterproof construction of special parts or complex structures, professional technicians or waterproof experts should be consulted.
After the construction is completed, a closed water test or a water spray test should be carried out to check whether the waterproof effect of the waterproof layer meets the requirements.
